Akron’s iconic Firestone logo lights up in its new home on Firestone Avenue.

On Friday afternoon, the top floor of the Bridgestone Americas New Advanced Tire Production Center (an Indy Car tire factory) at 1670 Firestone Park Road was officially lighted up, now equipped with a large-scale refurbished sign with energy-saving LED lights.

This iconic sign was removed at the end of 2020 from its decades-old home on the top of the former Firestone factory less than a mile north of the new tire factory. The old tire factory and the former Firestone headquarters are now part of the industrial park.

Bridgestone Americas replaced the old neon lights with state-of-the-art LEDs, and cleaned and refurbished the lettering in other ways. After the work was completed, the company placed the Firestone logo on top of its new racing tire factory in September. (The factory is scheduled to open next year.)

Bridgestone Americas officially lit up Friday's shift shift on its 100-acre Akron campus. The Nashville, Tennessee-based company owns the Firestone brand and has approximately 600 Akron employees.
