Indoor Growing 101: Guidelines and Tips When Buying Plant Lights

Growing flowers and plants indoors may be advantageous, and watching them grow throughout the year is an absolute victory regardless of the season. However, finding a high-quality grow light to keep plants healthy can be challenging. Here are some tips on the things you need to pay attention to when buying indoor plant grow lights.

Do plants really need special lights?

Ordinary LED or incandescent bulbs are designed to illuminate homes and other dark places, and usually, they can perform this task effectively. However, the design purpose of the plant growth lamp is completely different. If the goal is to grow plants indoors, it's really worth knowing as much about indoor plant lights as possible. Starting with the wrong settings may make the whole situation much more complicated than it should be.

The natural spectrum found in outdoor sunlight is the perfect resource for photosynthesis. This allows plants to develop and grow. The full-spectrum growth lamp is set to mimic this function as closely as possible. Ordinary light bulbs are not made with the correct wavelength and cannot allow plants to thrive. Using high-quality full-spectrum lights is the first step in setting up an indoor planting space.

Depending on the plant species, the grow light usually needs to be turned on for at least eight to ten hours a day. This may cause concerns about heat output and power usage, which is why many indoor plant growers prefer to use LED grow lights over other options. LED plant growth lamps produce the same amount of growth energy as incandescent lamps and fluorescent lamps for plants, but the consumption and output efficiency of LED plant growth lamps is higher.

When using LED lights, it also reduces the worry about the growing lights scorching plant leaves. Because these lights are very efficient, plants can usually grow to bulbs without the risk of burning. If the growth space is tight, this feature will come in handy.

How much will all this cost?

Growers are encouraged to look for durable, high-quality plant growth lights made by reputable manufacturers. The life expectancy of the luminaire is between 50,000 and 100,000 hours. The cost of a good growing light for one or two plants should be around $100. Make sure that each plant has enough growth space. Space them too close will not allow proper development.

A good grow light should last about ten years. Knowing the manufacturer's warranty can prevent a lot of frustration in the future. If the specific growth lamp you are interested in does not provide a warranty during this time frame, there is reason to doubt the life of the lamp.

Certain models of growth lights are tailor-made for specific growth stages in plant life and the unique needs of that stage. There are even planting lights that can best meet the needs of specific crops, depending on whether the crop is a tulip or a tomato. These two plants have different requirements, and these lights claim to meet these requirements.

In addition to growing beautiful plants, indoor gardening has many benefits. Studies have shown that growing plants indoors can increase mental concentration, provide healthier indoor air, and improve your mood.
