The sunsets are always gorgeous in central Pennsylvania, but they are more colorful than ever this month in Cumberland County.

That’s because a Carlisle company is releasing the glow of its powerful pink lights into the sky to draw attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The medical marijuana facility, Organic Remedies, uses the LED pink lights year-round in their greenhouse to grow their product, but usually keeps black drapes over the glass exterior.

But the drapes are getting pulled back each night to allow the LED lights to illuminate the sky.

Residents in the borough and beyond have already taken notice, with many posting photos and comments on social media.

The light display, which can be seen within 50 miles, is scheduled for each night of October between 6–9 p.m., according to company spokeswoman Janice Spurlock.

LED lights are considered an energy-efficient way to light marijuana greenhouses, as well as evenly distribute light over the plants to help them grow. Company officials are hoping the lights this month might also spark some important conversations about breast cancer prevention and treatment.

The pink light from Carlisle can be seen in Mechanicsburg.

“Breast cancer affects thousands of women and their families in PA each year. We want to do our part to support women currently battling breast cancer and celebrate the heroic survivors who have won the fight,” said Mark Toigo, CEO of Organic Remedies, in a news release. “Lighting the sky pink throughout the month not only demonstrates our commitment to this worthy cause, but it also brings awareness to all who see this vivid display and will hopefully help us to raise more funds to support women with breast cancer.”

A portion of proceeds from select Organic Remedies’ products will also be donated to the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, the company said. The PBCC is a non-profit organization that supports central Pennsylvania breast cancer survivors and their families.
